Finding Prom Hairstyles, A Quick Hair Guide
1. Do you have a signature style?
You don’t need to go searching for different prom hairstyles when you’ve got a signature style. Whether it’s your pin straight long locks or your perfect curlicues, if you have a look you love, there is no need to change it. Your prom pictures should look like you! If you would never be caught dead in a ponytail, let alone an updo, go with your signature style.
2. Can you twist a trend?
Will everyone you know be wearing a flower crown? Or maybe an actual crown? Feel free to follow the trends but for a little extra personality try it out on your hair. Try out a cool half-up flower braided updo. You can add as many twisted braids as you like, just make sure to loosen up the braids a bit so that they look voluminous. When your style is done, set your prom look with some of the Bed Head By TIGI Headrush Shine Hairspray for strong hold and shine that’ll last you all night.
3. Casual, glam, or both?
If you don’t feel comfortable getting dolled up, try a more casual style with your hair down. If you’re looking for something more glamorous, why not try out some chic vintage curls? For something in-between, you can opt to curl your hair with a large barrel curling iron and use some of the TRESemmé Perfectly (Un)Done Sea Salt Spray. It will relax your curls into a more casual style while still looking done.
4. Is comfort high on your list?
If you are a dance machine you may not want your hair down or in an elaborate updo. With pins and heavy hairspray things may get a bit annoying on the dance floor. If comfort while you party the night away is your priority, try a ponytail. But instead of your regular boring ponytail you could wear to gym class, try something with a little more oomph, like this fun pull through ponytail.
5. Going edgy? Or super sweet?
We love bun hairstyles because they can look good no matter your look. If you want an edgy messy bun, flat iron your hair until it is perfectly straight. Then, making sure to leave out small sections in the front, create a messy bun at the nape of your neck. Define your hair by using some of the Nexxus New York Salon Care Exxtra Hold Sculpting Gel. For a sweeter look, follow our ballerina bun tutorial.
6. Going modern or retro?
With a few simple tweaks, most updos can go from modern to retro. If you love the ’60s style bouffant get a teased updo and add a headband. The same updo can look modern with a few loose tendrils and a sparkly clip instead of the headband. Need some inspirational prom hairstyles?
