Washing Your Hair: 5 Tips You Need to Know
1. Rinse with Water Only Before Shampooing
Have you ever noticed that when you go to a salon they saturate your hair with water before applying shampoo to your hair? (It’s okay if you didn’t notice, we’re all guilty of just living in the moment and having someone pamper us while we relax.) Rinsing your hair with water before applying shampoo is a very important step. The water rinse (warm water only) will help loosen up any dirt in the hair before the shampoo process.
2. Shampoo Hair the Right Way
Only apply shampoo to your scalp. We know, we know, you don’t see this on the directions all the time but shampoo is made to cleanse your scalp. As you work the shampoo through, the excess will travel down your strands and cleanse your hair. Focus on your scalp as this is where all of the buildup is.
3. Wash According to Your Hair Type
Curly and wavy haired girls, listen up! If you’ve been washing your mane every day or every week, it’s time to save some water and energy too! Curly and wavy hair types tend to be dry more often than not, so it’s best to wash less frequently to prevent hair from drying out. If you feel like you need to wash because your hair is dry, shampoo is not the answer. Instead, re-moisturize your hair with a leave-in conditioner like Suave Professionals Honey Infusion 10-in-1 Leave In Conditioner.
4. Conditioner is for the Lengths of Your Hair
Yes, you read that right. You should be only applying conditioner from the mid-length to the ends of your hair. Not your scalp unless you’re using a medicated conditioner from a line, like Dove Dermacare Scalp, which is supposed to be applied to your scalp in an effort to treat your itchy scalp and dandruff issues. All other conditioners, belong on your ends because this is the area that gets dry first. One of our favorite conditioners to use is the TIGI Copyright Custom Care Repair Conditioner for its hydration capability.
5. Know When to Use Clarifying Shampoos
Using a clarifying shampoo like Suave Essentials Daily Clarifying Shampoo is great for removing loads of buildup from your strands, but it’s not something you’d want to use on a weekly basis. Opt for only using this kind of shampoo after having loads of product in your hair or when you feel your hair is extremely dirty. Need more tips on using this kind of shampoo?
